Insight from a city that never sleeps

“You praised the gods of silver and golf, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all of your ways.” Daniel 5:23

That passage stuck out to me this morning as I was reading through Daniel. I have been wandering the streets of New York these past few days feeling like an alien in a strange land. Years ago, I may have fit right in in this city. I wore a suit, my priorities were so different and I had a restlessness about me. It really struck me yesterday…watching the hustle and bustle…people shuffling along…huge electronic billboards pimping sin, vanity, money; just around the corner from beautiful historic churches that are more like museums than places of worship. I know God is here. I can feel Him, but I found it harder to see and hear Him with all of the distraction.

God gives us all life and breath…but do we acknowledge Him? Or are we too wrapped up worshiping other things to give Him praise?
