Who needs a band? I’ve got YouTube!

The kids and the dog are out of the house tonight and I had a few hours to myself this afternoon. We’ve all been sick this week, so the last thing I really felt like doing was leaving the house. Ahhhh…..”down-time”. Woot! Quiet time was hard to find this morning, so I took this moment to pick up my Bible. I started reading in Psalm 24. I got to verse 7…

Lift up your heads, you gates;
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,
    the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty—
    he is the King of glory.

…Wait a minute. I have heard this before. Then the tune starts playing in my head but, I feel that I am not quite getting it right so I break out the YouTube. Petra! “The King of Glory Shall Come In”! Yes, I am a child of the 80’s and it has been an eternity since I have heard this song but, when it came on I knew it and chimed in. Wait..I need to hear that again. So I played it again while reading Psalm 24. AWESOME. Ok…one more time. This time singing at the TOP of my lungs- bobbing my head; hands raised high. Oh yeah!

Man, that was fun. I continued reading onto Psalm 25. Another familiar one-and more songs came to my mind. Before I knew it, I was having my own full-on praise and worship session. Who needs a band? I’ve got YouTube! So in addition to Petra, I had Third Day, Hillsong, and Glenn Campbell (yes folks, I am “old school”) and I was lifting my voice….reading those Psalms and making a joyful noise. (Take note: there was nobody around who can testify if it was song or noise…but I assure you, it was joyful!)  The cool thing is that Psalm 119 keeps entering my head and heart this week and these verses and songs parallel….tied together with a beautiful bow. A true gift to me today. I can’t even tell you how much fun that was. What a refreshing and wonderful experience at the end of a long week of caring for a sick family and being under the weather myself. I am back on top of that weather! Praise be to God! I am so thankful to have had such a wonderful not-so-quiet time.

Enjoy these upcoming days with your families as we reflect on the gift our great God Almighty has given us in the Lord Jesus Christ. While you’re celebrating…here’s my playlist for Psalm 24 and 25 if you want to sing along.
